Mr. Leo J. VanDornick, age 87, formerly of Manitowoc, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Radiant Senior Living in Salem, Oregon.

Leo was born in June 24, 1924 in the town of Suamico, Wisconsin, son of the late Albert and Helena (Debyle) VanDornick. In June of 1954 he married the former Dolores Vetter at First German Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death in March 1989. He then married Elaine Brault Miller in July of 1990.

Leo volunteered and served in the Wisconsin State Guard in the early 1940's. He worked his lifetime in the automobile business working at Hamachek's, Pietroske's, Lauson's and retiring from Larson's Chevrolet. He always took great pride in the work that he did on his customers cars.

Leo enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling to the cottage in Three Lakes, Wisconsin, during the summer months and their retirement home in Apache Junction, Arizona during the winter months. You could often find him at many polka dances kicking up his heels. He was a past member of the Eagles Club in Manitowoc and Apache Junction, Good Sam's Camping Club, VFW, and First German Lutheran Church while in Manitowoc.

Survivors include his three children and their spouses: David & Christine (Kutz) VanDornick, Rolling Meadows, Illinois; Sandra & Michael Knapp, Appleton; Debra & James LaPean, Manitowoc; five grandchildren: John Johnson Jr., Jackie (Johnson) Wyngaard and her husband Tyler, Brock Zieske and his wife Stacy, Michelle LaPean, Erika LaPean; two great grandchildren: Annalise Zieske and Sage Stokes; step children: Ed & Mary Miller and their children: Dawn, Amy and Andy; Milt & Donna Miller and their children: Darcey and Tony; Don & Carol Miller and their children: Adam, Peggy, Dan and Greg; two step sons-in-law: Rollie Ravenhorst and Darryl Marcoux. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Martin, Leonard & Henry VanDornick, and Lila Schaden, Ella Halliday; step daughters: Dorie Ravenhorst and Loretta Marcoux; and many other relatives and friends.

Cremation has occurred in Salem, Oregon. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2012 at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Memorial Service will be Rev. Dr. James Klein with burial of Leo's cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military Honors will be accorded by American Legion-Drews Blesser Post #88.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012 until 12:45 p.m.
