MORTEN TVETEN, JR. (d. 1945)

Private Tveten Dies in Action
Pfc. Morten Tveten, 22, an honor student at Lincoln high school,
who had been overseas only a month, was killed in action in Germany
March 20, according to a War Department telegram to his mother Mrs.
M.S. Tveten, of 1916 Rankin street.
His was the 119th casualty in the county in World War II.
Private Tveten entered the service in April, 1943, and completed his
basic engineering course of the army specialized training program at
Indiana university in December, 1943. He later was assigned to advanced
engineering work at other schools before being assigned to a unit and
sent overseas.
He was graduated from Lincoln high school in 1940, and in his senior
year was business manager of the Flambeau, a member of the mixed chorus,
student council, Quill and Scroll and National Honor society.
In addition to his mother, Private Tveten has a brother and two sisters
(Survivors omitted for privacy.)

Reburial services for the late Pfc. Morten Tveten (above), who was killed
in action on the German front in March, 1945, are to be held at the First
Lutheran church here at 2 p.m. Friday with the Revs. Ernest Zoerb and C.L.
Hinderlie officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.
The casketed remains of Pfc. Tveten, who was a son of Mrs. Mary Tveten of
this city, were scheduled to arrive in Manitowoc this evening. Friends may
call at the Frazier mortuary after 4 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday
when the casket will be removed to the church where it will remain until
the hour of services.
Born in Oslo, Norway, in 1922, Pfc. Tveten graduated with honors from
Lincoln high school in 1940, following which he attended St. Olaf college
in Northfield, Minn.
Entering the service in April, 1943, he completed his basic training program
at the University of Indiana in December of that year and was later transferred
to advanced engineering work at the University of Cincinnati before being
assigned to a unit and sent overseas.
As a result of his gallantry in action while attacking Sieggried line positions,
in March, 1945, and which which ???? ?? his death from ????? ???? ?????. Tveten
(next sentence unreadable) silver star medal by the war department.
Surviving, in addition to the mother, are two sisters and a brother (Survivors
omitted for privacy.)
