Roy E. Truba, 90, born Detroit, MI on 19 Jan 1921 passed away 13 Apr 2011 in Fairfax VA. Following high school graduation worked for various architectural firms in Detroit until called to war service in Oct 1942. Initially trained as infantry and paratrooper until transferred to the US Army Air Corps as Bombardier with B-17G aircraft. Upon completion of training transferred to the European theater with 8th USAF, 457th Bomb Group (H), 751st Squadron. Shot down and wounded on 18 April 1945 becoming a POW. Liberated on 29 April 1945 and transferred Nov 1945 to the USAF Reserve becoming a civil engineering officer. Retired 1 Feb 1969 from the USAF after 27 years as a LTCOL. Awards include; Purple Heart, Air Medal with OLC, European African Middle Eastern Theater w/ 3 Bronze Stars, American Campaign Medal, Air Force Reserve Medal, and POW Medal. Married Blanche Brown in Miami 20 Sept 1946 and was married for 63 years. Attended the U of Detroit receiving a degree in Architectural Engineering in 1955. Moved to Miami in 1960 to work with the FHA. Transferred to Jacksonville in 1978 where he retired from the HUD in 1991 after 31 years. Avid golfer with his wife as members of University CC and Selva Marina CC. Upon his wifes death in Dec 2009 moved to Fairfax, VA where he lived until his death. A celebration of life service was held 18 Apr 2011 in Fairfax, VA which was the 66 year anniversary of becoming a POW. Survived by three children; Roy JR, Barbara, and Gregory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund; 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256. He will be buried with his wife with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery later this summer.
