Mr. John Thompson, well known to many of the citizens of Rochester, fell over dead this morning while building fire in the stove at his residence, probably with heart disease, superinduced by the use of tobacco and other stimulants. Thompson was a quiet citizen and reasonably industrious. He served his country well as a soldier and the government rewarded him with a small pension. For the past seventeen years he was a resident of this place, engaged most of the time as a journeyman wagonmaker. He leaves a wife and children to mourn the loss of a husband and father.
-----
John Thompson married four times:
Rachel Hall - Dec. 6, 1848 - Knox Co., OH
Mary Elizabeth Hughs - Aug. 13, 1866 - Fulton Co., IN
Louisa B Green - Apr 23, 1872 - Fulton Co., IN
Mary Elizabeth (Hall) Foster - Feb., 17, 1873
