Major League Baseball Player. He was a pitcher in six seasons (1939 to 1942, 1946 to 1947) with the Cincinnati Reds and New York Giants. He was a member of the 1940 World Champion Reds, a season in which he notched 16 victories and posted a 3.32 ERA. During World War II, Thompson served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1945 before resuming his career. After retiring as a player he worked as a scout for the Giants. In a career 185 games, Thompson won 47, lost 35 with a 3.26 lifetime ERA.
