Matthew J. Theis, age 76, of 1931 S. 39th St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Larry McCann, followed by military rites accorded by VFW Otto Oas Post #659 of Manitowoc. Cremation has taken place with entombment of the cremated remains at a later date. Matthew was born March 28, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, son of the late Matthew and Helen Gerndt Theis. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Pacific. On Nov. 27, 1948 he married Patricia Nikolai in Marshfield, Wis. Survivors include his wife: Patricia Theis, Manitowoc; four sons and three daughters-in-law: Michael Theis and his fiancee, Diane Boness, Manitowoc; Thomas and Patti Theis, Temecula, Calif.; Patrick and Gloria Theis, Manitowoc; David and Kim Theis, Manitowoc; three daughters and sons-in-law: Julie and Robert Mayer, Manitowoc; Lisa and Kevin Sommers, Manitowoc; Jenny and Gregg Rabe, Valders; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law: Ervin and Helen Theis, Rosendale; three sisters: Betty Bishop, Loraine Sitzwel and Lila Vogds, all of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter: Kristine Theis; three brothers and three sisters. The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, on Sunday evening, Dec. 1, 2002, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m.
