Raymond S. Tewel, 73, of 1318 S. 12th St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday evening
at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Theodore Vinger will officiate and burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Tewel was born July 23, 1898, at Mattoon, Ill., son of the late Fermie
and Stella Sawyer Tewel. He was a World War I veteran serving as private
with Co. C of the 130th Infantry from Aug. 20, 1917, to May 31, 1919. He
married Lydia Wilke June 14, 1920, at Manitowoc. The couple was married by
the Rev. Karl Machmiller. The couple celbrated its 50th wedding anniversary
in 1970.
He was employed at Standard Oil Co. and Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., until
his retirement in 1962. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
No. 659 and the Boilermakers Local Union No. 516.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, two brothers, Orval, of Pembine,
Wis., and Richard of Freeport, Ill.; four sisters, Mrs. Mac Paske, of San
Francisco, Calif., Mrs. Joseph Marcelles, of Iron Mountain, Mich., Mrs. Elzie
Perish, of Hillsboro and Mrs. Helen Yehle, of Winneconne; and nine grand-
children. A brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 8 to
9 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday and then at the church until the time of
services. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
