James was born the son of the late Jasper and Wilsie Emmalene Hobbs Tate. The owner of Tate Nursery and member of Morton Memorial Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Albert F. and Pearl King Tate and maternal grandparents, Herman and Carlena Rubley Hobbs. He was a member of the Beersheba Springs Rescue Squad and Volunteer Fire Department and worked part-time for the Methodist Conference Council of Tennessee. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sandie and Joseph Smartt of Beersheba Springs, TN; son and daughter-in-law, James M. and April Tate, Jr. of Beersheba Springs, TN; five grandchildren, Brennen Richardson, Kendra Richardson, Jesse and Jacob Tate and Ethan Milstead; two sisters, Sandra (Kenneth M.) Hereford of Chattanooga, TN and Cathy Campbell of Palmer, TN; nephew, Paul J. Campbell of Roanoke, VA; great-niece, Kayla McHone of Whitwell, TN; uncle, Morton (Frances) Tate of McMinnville; aunts, Sara Anne Hobbs Walker of McMinnville and Dorothy Hobbs Irvin and Joyce Hobbs Knowles (Joe) of Chattanooga, TN; special friend, Elsie Hobbs and several cousins.
