Born Dec. 26, 1830 in Fackenburg, Holstein, Germany. Wed Anna Bessmann 3/4/1857. 8 children born, 6 survived to adults: Henry, Louis, John, Wilhelmina, Sophia, August, Anna died 4/3/73. He remarried to Dorothea Griesbach 8/24/73. She was a widow with 1 son, Henry. They had 18 children but only 10 survived to adults. Herman, Charlotte, Alma, Rudolph, Adolph, Amanda, Hilda, Otto, Mathias, and Albertina. He retired from his trade as a shoemaker in 1900, at age of 70 having worked since he was 15 years old. He died 7/13/1905 and the next day the 12 day old baby girl of Mr. & Mrs. Rudolph Stoecker also died and was buried in the same casket with her grandfather. She weighed only 1.5 lbs.
