Gladys R. Steinbrecker, age 91, of West Bend, Wis., died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at St. Joseph Synergy Health. A memorial service will be held at Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Manitowoc on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Richard Runge and the Rev. Mary Davies will officiate. Burial of her cremated remains will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Gladys was born Feb. 14, 1914, at Kellnersville, daughter of the late Vincent and Adelaide Bonin Cherney. She was educated in Manitowoc and graduated from Manitowoc County Normal School and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She taught primary grades in Newton, Manitowoc Rapids and McKinley School in Manitowoc until her retirement in 1951. She married Fred Steinbrecker in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1983. After her marriage to Fred, they lived in Racine, Wis. In 1986, Gladys moved to the Cedar Ridge Retirement Center in West Bend. Survivors include two brothers: Howard Cherney, Manitowoc; Allan Cherney, Sun City West, Ark.; nieces and nephews: Dale Cherney, Howards Grove; Wayne Cherney, Manitowoc; Lee Cherney, Denver, Colo.; Pamela Hansen, Denver, Colo; Nancy Wojciechowski, Green Bay. Six grand nieces, one grand nephew, other relatives and friends also survive. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name.
