Harold G. Standing, 90, passed away November 13, 2016 in Des Moines.
Harold was born January 22, 1926, in Earlham, IA to Ernest Gilbert and Asenath Jane (Henderson) Standing.
He attended Earlham schools and later worked as an assembler at John Deere, retiring in 1985 after 28 years of service.
Harold married Carolyn Marjorie (Schmellik) Benfer on June 19, 1959.
He enjoyed inventing and fixing things throughout his life. Harold loved to garden, travel, and visit family throughout the country. More recently, he spent his days listening to music, playing Scrabble on the computer, and watching his favorite game shows on TV.
Harold is survived by his two sisters, Gladys Bierma and Lucille "Lucky" Guindon; four children, Linda Crouch, Lisa (Tom) Lansing, Lori (Clay) Ewing, and Larry (Paulette) Standing; 10 grandchildren, Iain (Christy) Crouch, Colin (Becky) Crouch, Melinda (Josh) Allison, Tom (Ramolaa) Shah-Lansing, Amanda Lansing, Ethan and Emily Ewing, Madison, Meredith, and Nathan Standing; four great-grandchildren, Tessa, Trinity, Kaiya, and Cora Crouch.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; four sisters, Florence Guindon, Helen Spriegel, Evelyn Thomas, and Bertha Osborn; and one brother, Henry Standing.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren's.
