Hans Sorensen was born in Salling, Jylland, Denmark, April 7, 1834, and died at his home west of Nysted April 29, 1912, aged 78 years and 22 days.

He served in the war 1863-4 and was in the artillery in the battle at Dybbel. After the war he received an honorable discharge.

Mr. Sorensen was married twice, first time to Miss Abelone Pedersen in 1859, four children were born to this union, two of which died while young, Soren P. Sorensen, who died two years ago in February, and Mrs. Chr. Jensen, living near Nysted.

His first wife died in 1875. April 29, 1877 he married Miss Marie Kjerstine Christensen. Five children were born to them, two died while young, the living are Albert and Mrs. S. Sorensen of Nysted and Mrs. Bert Nellis of Dannebrog.

The family came to Dannebrog in 1881 and the next year moved on the farm west of Nysted, and which has been their home ever since.

The funeral was held at Nysted, Rev. Pedersen officiating, Thursday afternoon and was very largely attended.

Mr. Sorensen was a kind and loving husband and father and a good neighbor, upright and straight in all his transactions. We have personally known him ever since he came to this county and have never heard anything but good of Hans Sorensen Bjornholt, as he was generally called. He was a hard worker, quiet disposition and attended to his own affairs, not mingling much with other peoples.

The cause of his death was heart disease and he died very sudden.

Besides his wife and four children he leaves a host of friends who we join in extending condolence to the bereaved family.

(The Card of Thanks was signed by Mrs. Stine Sorensen and children)
