Attorney, Military Officer, Politician. He was the son of Sebron G. Sneed and Miranda Adkins. He was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1854. He was elected Mayor of Austin, Texas in 1856 and District Attorney in 1860. In 1862 he joined the Confederate Army as a private like his older brother, Sebron G. Jr. He was later promoted and recruited a cavalry regiment. He married Elizabeth Burleson, daughter of General Edward Burleson.
When his brother-in-law, Major Edward Burleson, died the Sneeds raised his orphaned children, one of whom was Albert S. Burleson, later Postmaster General in the Cabinet of Woodrow Wilson. Mr. Sneed was a great influence on his nephew, overseeing his education. Mr. Burleson began his career in his uncle's law office.
