DIED.
In Manitowoc, on the 6th inst. Ira Smith, in the 68th year of his age.
Mr. Smith was a volunteer in the war of 1812. He was at the burning of
Buffalo, where he was taken prisoner. He was soon after exchanged, but
not being satisfied with this short service in his country's cause, he
again volunteered, and was a second time made prisoner and taken to
Halifax where he was detained nine months as a prisoner of war.
He was one of the early settlers of Manitowoc, and for some time
previous to his death had suffered from ill-health.
