Mary Louise Stackpole Smith, 85, Woodsfield, died April 21, 2011 at Barnesville Hospital. She was born Dec. 20, 1925 in Hastings, W.Va., a daughter of the late Fay Elmer and Bessie Virginia Scyoc Stackpole.



She had attended grade school at Porters Falls, W.Va. and high school at Reader, W.Va. She and her husband Brady were baptized by Evangelist Elmer Taylor at a gospel meeting held in Cameron Oct. 12, 1950. She was a faithful member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, Brady Eugene Smith of Woodsfield, whom she married March 4, 1947 by J.V.A. Traylor at his home; two daughters, Julie Lynne Smith Schwab of Peachtree City, Ga., Jean Lynette Smith of Milford; a brother, Charles Raymond Stackpole of Brookfield, Wisc.; five grandchildren, Lt. Col. James R. Smith, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Sherry Smith of Columbus, Fayetta Lee Wellman of Phoenix, Ariz., Timothy Schwab of Nashville, Tenn., David Lee Schwab of Peachtree City; four great-grandchildren, Paul Brady Schwab, Andrew James Smith, Cortney Lynn Smith, Gillian Wellman; and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Elane Love Smith of Phoenix.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Ronald Smith, Oct. 1984; great-grandson, Christian Starr Wellman; three sisters, Martha Wilma Lee Stackpole Reed, Ruth Marie Stackpole Ady, Shirley Grace Stackpole; and a brother, Emmett Stackpole.

Friends were received April 23 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, until tie of service, with Ministers Chuck Schultheisz and Keith Jones officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.
