After practicing medicine in Madison, Wisconsin, Greggar was one of the founders of the Gunderson, Christiansen and Smedal clinic in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Greggar was an accomplished surgeon, who could perfom an apendectomy in less than ten minutes, and often did more than a dozen surgeries a day. And Greggar, like many Smedals, was a fine violinist.
In 1907, Greggar married Orletta Hendricson and they had two sons, Harald Smedal and Sigmund Smedal. Greggar was in ill health the final two years of his life.
