Jhessye Shockley, 5, was reported missing from her home on October 11, 2011, by her mother Jerice Hunter. As the investigation into Jhessye's disappearance progressed, the authorities determined the child would not be found alive. In time, Jhessye's mother became a primary suspect in this case.
On December 21, 2011, it was announced that the investigation had been deemed a homicide. Anyone with information regarding Jhessye's case is urged to call the Glendale Police Department's tip line at 623-930-HELP (4357).
Monday February 6, 2012:
Day 1 of a massive landfill search in Butterfield Landfill in Mobile, AZ. Butterfield is the largest landfill in Arizona. More than 40 people, including officers, detectives, and the FBI, will be at the site each day searching for the body of Jhessye Shockley.
April 1, 2012:
A group of child abuse prevention advocates gathered to honor Jhessye's 6th birthday. The celebration was observed with cake, balloons and refreshments. Community members celebrated Jhessye's birthday on April 1, 2012, the start of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
