Mrs. Ella M. Shields, the wife of David Shields, who lives three miles east and one mile south of Clifton, died from the effects of a stroke of paralysis, in the home Friday morning, January 3, 1919. She had been in poor health and nearly helpless for more than a year, but the end came suddenly.

Ella M. Forbes was born in Cleveland, Ohio, December 17, 1853. When a small child she moved with her parents to Madison county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to David shields at Winterest, Iowa on December 16, 1896. To them six children were born, Robert M., Otis R., and Clyde E. Shields of Clifton, and Mrs. Katie Z. Roche of Linn, and Beula M. Shields of Clifton. One daughter, Francis W. died in infancy.

She also has two living brothers Wm. W. Forbes of Des Moines, Iowa, and Charles A. Forbes of Bakersfield, Calif. Eight grandchildren are left to mourn her loss also.

She was a member of the Baptist church in childhood, but after coming to Kansas moved her membership to the Methodist church at Linn, where she remained a member for twenty-five years. A good companion, a fond mother, a kind friend and splendid neighbor has gone, and is mourned by all who knew her.

The funeral services were held in the home Sunday afternoon by Rev. E. M. Nunally, pastor of the Methodist church. Her body was taken to Linn Monday morning where another service was held in the Advent Christian church by Rev. E. M. Nunally, assisted by Rev. Hines, pastor of the M. E. church of Linn. Interment was made in the Spiers cemetery.
