SPOKANE- William Schmidt, 84, retired farmer from the Colton - Uniontown area, died at a Spokane nursing home Tuesday. Death was attributed to infirmities of age.
When he retired, the Schmidts moved to Spokane where they have lived since.
He was born in Germany Feb. 2, 1886, and came to the U.S. at age of 8. He homesteaded at Joseph, Ore., in the early 1900's.
He married Ann Zellerhoff at Colton in 1914, They lived at Joseph and in 1920 moved to a farm at Uniontown. In 1940 they moved to a farm at Colton.
Survivors include his wife at the family residence; six sons, James Schmidt, Cheney, Wash.; William Jr. of Spokane; Leo of Palouse; Elmer of St. John, Wash.; Leroy of Spokane and Larry of Vancouver, Wash.; four daughters, Mrs. Art (Laura) Myers, Opportunity, Wash.; Mrs. Clyde (Mary) Steagall of Seattle; Mrs. Paul (Ag-nes) Ludwig of Sunnydale, Calif.; Mrs. Lloyd (Peggy) Ray of Uniontown; a sister, Mrs. Mary Dzuik of Spokane; 48 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at St. Galls Catholic Church, Colton, at 8 p.m. Thursday with funeral mass there Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Paul M. Goergen, officiating.
Burial will be at the Colton Catholic Cemetery with Kimball Funeral Home, Pullman, in charge.
