His parents were Saul Samuel Schacht and Florence Schacht.
He served in the US Naval Reserves and was an Aviation Radioman Second Class.
During the war he flew on Curtiss SB2C Helldiver dive bombers from the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill. On June 19, 1944 he did not return from a bombing mission and was believed to have crashed into the sea. He was officially declared dead on January 19, 1946.
Schacht received the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
Because his body was never recovered, Schacht is listed on the Tablets of the Missing. He also memorialized in the Independent Stamford Lodge Cemetery in Darien Connecticut.
