Eugene L. Ruppelt, age 82, of 1508 Reed Ave., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, July 6, 2004, at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. Private graveside services were held on Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military graveside rites were accorded by the VFW Otto Oas Post #659 of Manitowoc. Eugene was born Feb. 1, 1922, at Manitowoc, son of the late Chester and Emma Westphal Ruppelt. He grew up and was educated in Manitowoc, graduating from Lincoln High School with the class of 1940. Eugene served overseas with the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945. Eugene married Gloria Wills. He worked for Manitowoc Engineering Crane Division as a foreman, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed building model airplanes, vacationing at his cottage up north and boating. Survivors include his wife: Gloria; one son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Kathy Ruppelt, Manitowoc; one granddaughter: Amy; two great-grandchildren: Tristin and Lexi; one brother and sister-in-law: Merlin and Marian Ruppelt, Manitowoc; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Calla and William Poulos, Manitowoc; nephew: Alan Ruppelt; three nieces: Chris Ruppelt, Carrie Hancock and Cynthia Kiepert. He was preceded in death by his parents. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc assisted the Ruppelt family.
