Home Community in
Honor and Respect

Harry J. Rothrock, well known citizen of Clay county (sic) and for many years a resident of Sutton, was laid to rest Friday afternoon, services were held in the Emmanuel Lutheran Reformed Church in Sutton, the pastor, Rev. Bartell, preaching the funeral sermon. Relatives, friends, neighbors and acquaintances were present to pay tribute to his memory. Of his family, only his wife survives.

Special music was provided by Helen Maser, organist, and Rose Fehr, soloist, who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Interment was in the Sutton cemetery (sic) with I. O. O. F. services being conducted by the Sutton lodge at the graveside. Bearers were Richard Byrkit, Bob Miles, Harold Thomas, Clifford Hill, J. T. Massie, S. W. Moger John A. Bottorf and John Sullivan.

Mr. Rothrock had passed away at Mary Lanning hospital (sic) in Hastings earlier in the week, following a heart attack. He had been in failing health for more than two years past but on Wednesday he was up town in Clay Center and reported as feeling fairly well.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Luther Rothrock and was born on Sept 19, 1896, at Reynolds, Nebr.

Early in life he studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1919. He was employed in war work at Grand Island during World War II and when his work was over returned to the practice of law in Sutton.

He served his community and county in many ways, including attorney for Sutton, secretary of the Sutton Commercial club, as an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was elected county judge of Clay county (sic) and served two full terms.

An Honest Impartial Judge---
He was an honest, impartial judge. During his terms in that office he accounted faithfully for all monies entrusted to his care and custody; he was unbiased in his decisions and hewed to the line and collected more money in the four years of each term than had ever before been collected in the course of the office activities. Most of his money came from traffic violations and it is to his credit that only the guilty felt he was unnecessarily harsh in his decisions.

He was married to Miss Emma Fuehrer of the Sutton community on Oct 6th, 1942, and it was n Oct 6, 1961, nineteen years later, he was laid in his last resting place.

He had lived in Clan Center for the past several years, moving to the county seat because he felt his office work demanded the closer contact. He was a conscientious public servant A man with a high sense of duty. His work is ended.
