FRED C. ROBINSON

Robinson Falls To Death from Room in Hotel
Fred C. Robinson, 82, retired waterworks superintendent and sewer contractor,
fell to his death from his seventh floor apartment in the Hotel Manitowoc early
this morning.
Mr. Robinson had been in failing health for several months and a lung congestion
made it difficult for him to breathe. He had been supplied with oxygen from a
tank in his room and until yesterday was attended by two nurses.
It is believed that he walked to the window for fresh air, lost his balance and
plunged headlong to the cement walk on York street.
His body was discovered by Ralph Wiegand, of the Wisconsin Lunch, who was driving
north on Eighth street, shortly after 5:30 a.m. He felt Mr. Robinson's pulse, and
then hurried into the hotel lobby to summon officers. Officer Chester Saduske and
Coroner Theodore Teitgen responded.
Mr. and Mrs. Robinson have occupied a suite of corner rooms on the seventh floor
of the hotel for the past eight years, moving there from their home, 939 Lincoln
boulevard.
Private funeral services for Mr. Robinson will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the
Mittnacht-Kollath funeral home, the Rev. F. C. St. Clair of the St. James Episcopal
church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Robinson was born in Whitewater, Wis., in 1866 and attended schools there. In
early life he was an apprentice in mills there and in 1896 came to Manitowoc to take
employment with T.W. Gray and W. G. Maxcy, owners and operators of the waterworks
plant here.
In 1908 he moved to Platteville to take a position as superintendent of the waterworks
plant in that city. When the city took over the waterworks here in 1913 Mr. Robinson
returned to Manitowoc to enter into partnership with the late T. W. Gray in the sewer
contracting business, under the firm name of the Gray-Robinson Construction company.
Mr. Robinson retired from the firm in 1930, and continued to make his home in this city.
He was an active member of the Manitowoc lodge of Elks for years.
Survivors are his wife, the former Ottillie Rudolph, whom he married in 1901, and a
nephew, Claude Frasier of Okmulgee, Okla.
