Rachel E Alexander, 93, of Rising Sun, MD, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun, MD. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, she was born in North East on October 28, 1917, the daughter of the late James Duffy and the late Elizabeth C (Ferguson) Reynolds. She was the wife of the late Lewis M. Alexander, Sr. who died on January 7, 1984. She worked at the Elkton Sparkler Plant for numerous years and retired from the North East Middle School Cafeteria where she worked for 18 years. Mrs. Alexander was also a homemaker. She was a member of North East United Methodist Church all of her life; a member of the North East Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years and a member of the Rebecca Lodge. She was an avid Orioles baseball fan. Survivors include her children: Arlyne A. Wiles and her companion Lonnie Wiles of Rising Sun, MD, Sherry D. Tyler and her husband Bruce of North East, MD and Lewis M. Alexander, Jr. of Pocomoke City, MD; her grandchildren: Richard E. O'Dwyer, III and his wife Lisa, Allen B. Johnson, Jr. and his wife Danielle, Elan R. Martin and her husband Jeff and Lewis M. Alexander III; 7 great grandchildren: Katelynne J. McCormick, Brittany R. O'Dwyer, Rian A. Johnson, Alexandria R. Martin, Hannah E. Martin, Emma K. Martin and Chandler Donato; her step son-in-law, Kenneth Hurst; a sister: Delores Letts and her husband, Nick; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by 6 siblings: Charles Reynolds, Arthur Reynolds, Henry Reynolds, Frank Reynolds (her twin), Elmer Reynolds and Idella Preston; her daughter-in-law: Susan Sheets Alexander and her step-daughter: Betty Alexander Hurst. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will follow services in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD. Published in the Cecil Whig on August 18, 2011.
