Mrs. John Reif, 88, of 1911 South 11th street, lifelong resident of Manitowoc,
died late Monday afternoon at the family home. Until she suffered a stroke a
week ago Mrs. Reif, despite her advanced years, enjoyed fairly good health.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Pfeffer funeral home,
the Rev. L. H. Koeninger of the First German Evan. Lutheran church officiating.
Mrs. Reif was a member of that congregation. Burial will be in Evergreen
cemetery.
Mrs. Reif, nee Sophia Haupt, was born in this county in 1854 and spent most of
her life in this city. She was married to John Reif in 1896. He died five years
ago.
Survivors are a son, Adolph, who made his home with his mother; two daughters,
Mrs. William Groelle and Mrs. Hugo Rudolph of this city; brother, Henry Haupt
of Milwaukee; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Martens and Mrs. Peter Kleinbauer of
this city, Mrs. Ida Wendler of Chicago; and four grandchildren.
The body is lying in state at the funeral home and may be viewed there until
the hour of the services Wednesday afternoon.
