Justine Rades née Vogel: 1821 - 1894
Justine Vogel was one of four children of Friedrich Wilhelm Vogel and Marie Elisabeth Becker who reached their majority. All were born in the small village of Saatzig, parish of Jacobshagen, district of Saatzig, Pomerania, Prussia. Justine was the third oldest being born on the 6th of November 1821. Her father was a shepherd and a cottager. Her siblings were three brothers: Christian (1807-1860); David (1810-1891); & August Wilhelm (1828-?). Justine married Johann Gottlieb Rades in Saatzig about 1844 and had six children: Wilhelm (1845-1919), Wilhelmina (1847-1915), Auguste (1853-1938), Franz (1857-1933), Marie (1858-1919). and Albertine (1862-1927). The whole family decided to leave Pomerania in July of 1867 after Justine's mother, Elisabeth Vogel née Becker had died earlier on the 22nd of February 1867. According to her mother's death record from Marienfliess, she was buried in the cemetery at Saatzig and left behind three adult children. Justine and her family sailed to America as well as her brother, David Vogel's family both relocating to the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. Her older brother, Christian was deceased, but one of his children, Friedrich Wilhelm Vogel and his family later immigrated to Kiel, Wisconsin in 1881. Justine's youngest brother, August Wilhelm stayed in Pomerania, relocating to the village of Ball in the district of Saatzig where he married for a second time in 1860. Justine and her husband, Johann Gottlieb Rades settled on an eighty acre farm that they purchased in 1867 in the Town of Schleswig. Their youngest daughter, Albertine who married Joseph Buchholz eventually took over the Rades home farm and turned it into a very successful dairy farm which is still in operation today. Justine died in 1894 at the age of 72 years and was laid to rest in the Schleswig Cemetery in Rockville, Wisconsin. Her husband Johann Gottlieb was interred next to her four years later.
