Graduated from Graham High School in 1916. He was president of the senior Class. Served as secretary of the Graham debate team. He played basketball in 1915 and 1916. James Pursley was class poet one year and school reporter. He was a member of the Eagle Society his senior year. James Pursley ran track one year.

James Pursley was the star poet of the class. Whenever he caught sight of a pretty girl's eyes he would be raised up to the seventh heave of delight and a poem would evolve out of his brains. His election as class president show
