Pvt., Co. B, 10th Mississippi Infantry, CSA. Enlisted: New Albany, Mississippi in August 1862. He was one of the sons of Seargent Smith Prentiss (1808-1850), a distinguished orator, writer and US Congressman of Mississippi.

There is a cenotaph in memory of George in the family cemetery, Sargent Cemetery, in Natchez, Mississippi.

George died of Typhoid Fever after an illness of 26 days. The plaque here gives his date of death as Nov. 30, 1862; however, newspaper obituary and cenotaph gives death date as December 7, 1862.
