Gordon J. Powalisz, age 96, formerly of 711 N. 5th St. Manitowoc, died Monday morning, April 22, 2013 at Kindred Hearts of Manitowoc.

Gordon was born on October 28, 1916 in Manistee, MI, son of the late Edward and Sally (Niemirowicz) Powalisz. He grew up in Manitowoc and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Manitowoc and attended the Manitowoc Vocational School. Gordon started performing with the Billy Schultz Circus and for two years was a member of the 7 American Gauchos Teeter Board Act in the 1930's, performing at various events through out the United States. On October 12, 1940 Gordon was married to the former Lucille Mumpy at Manitowoc. Lucille preceded Gordon in death on February 7, 2001. Gordon worked for 40 years at Paragon Electric and in 1972 began G and P Machine Co. with Tom Gleason. The company manufactured screw machine parts and Gordon retired in 1999 following his son's, Richard, death. Gordon is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #706 of Manitowoc, past member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #687 of Manitowoc and the Izaak Walton League of America Manitowoc Chapter #138.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law: Roger Powalisz and Carol Phillips-Powalisz, Livingston, MT; one granddaughter and her husband: Brook Powalisz and Ben Scurria, Boston, MA; one sister-in-law: Irene Powalish, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends survive. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Sally Powalisz; his wife: Lucille Powalisz; his son: Richard Powalisz; two brothers and one sister-in-law: John Powalish; Edward (Beatrice) Powalisz Jr.; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Lorraine (Hubert "Skeeter") Nischan; Genevieve (Gordon) Zannacker.

A time of remembrance will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 818 State St. Manitowoc. Cremation will follow the funeral service with burial of his cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.jensreinboldandpfeffer.com.
