HELEN POPELAR

Helen C. Popelar, age 87, a resident of St. Mary's Home, and formerly of 2012 Richmond Ave., Manitowoc, entered into eternal life Thursday evening, Dec. 8, 2005, at St. Mary's Home. Helen was born on July 28, 1918, in the town of Franklin to the late Joseph and Catherine Slager Reindl. She married Darwin J. Popelar on Sept. 17, 1940, in Kellnersville. Darwin preceded Helen in death on Jan. 15, 1999. Helen was a longtime member of the former Holy Innocents Catholic Church and the Holy Innocents Christian Women in Manitowoc, and a current member of St. Francis of Assisi, Manitowoc. Survivors include four children: Betty (Ronald) Rogne, La Valle; Carol (Leo) Tisler, Whitelaw; Mary Ann (Dennis) Steele, Bloomington, Minn.; and Michael (Sherry) Popelar, Ballwin, Mo.; eight grandchildren: Brenda (Dave) Turner; Bryan (Jackie) Rogne; Randy (Kelly) Tisler; Tammy (Peter) Olig; Michael Steele; Melissa Steele; Kyle Popelar and Kelly Popelar; eight great-grandchildren: Lance Tisler; Justine Tisler; Emma Olig; Simon Olig; Josephine Olig; Alexa Turner; Callie Turner; and Maya Rogne; and another great-grandchild to be born in February; a sister: Ann (Jack) Kaderabek, Manitowoc; also other relatives and friends surviving. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Darwin; a great-grandson: Edward Olig; and two brothers: Louie and Edward Reindl. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, starting at 9 a.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, and 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi-Waldo Blvd. Site. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Gerald Foley, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses on Tower One at St. Mary's Home for their loving and compassionate care they provided Helen, especially during her last days.
