EVERETT L. POPE

Everett Pope, retired City of Manitowoc fireman who lived at 866 No. 10th St.,
died unexpectedly of a coronary attack while visiting at Milwaukee Thursday
evening.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Robin Butler will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Pope was born Nov. 11, 1914, at Pensaukee, son of Fred and Anna Kreshefsky
Pope. He attended Green Bay Schools until moving to Manitowoc where he was
graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1934. He then worked at
Mirro Aluminum Co. and Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc. before entering military
service Nov. 7, 1942. He was stationed in the European Theater in 1944-45
attached to the 119th Hospital Corps and was discharged Dec. 6, 1945, with a
T5 rating. Mr. Pope married Ruth Holly of Manitowoc June 6, 1942, in Iowa.
Pope joined the Manitowoc Fire Department in 1946 and served until 1959 when
he retired due to ill health. He was a lieutenant at the southside station
and was an active outdoorsman. He was a member of the Fireman’s Relief Assn.
He is survived by his parents, wife, a daughter, (private), and a sister, Mrs.
Eugene Scherer of Manitowoc. A brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday and until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Jens
Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and then until the time of services at the church.
The American Legion Drews-Bleser Post No. 88 will conduct military rites at
graveside.
