Found pension record for John W. Pletcher, 78th Ohio Inf on Ancestry.com and in pensioner index also on the following website: Smith County, KS 1883 List of Pensioners on the Roll

John W. Pletcher found in several Federal census including:
Census Microfilm Records: Kansas and Oklahoma, 1920
Age: 74
Gender: M
Race: W
Birthplace: OHIO
State: KS
County: SMITH
Locale: SMITH CENTER
Series: T625 Roll: 552 Part: 1 Page: 110B

The original burial record says this grave belongs to J. Parson. He is not listed in Roll of Honor or Co E 78th Ohio in Ohio Roster, but he is listed in CWSS and in the History of the 78th OVVI, page 60.

The History of the 78th Regiment O.V.V.I., by Stevenson, Thomas M., Zanesville, Ohio, 1865, is a second source that states on page 62 that James Parsons was killed in the battle of Atlanta. So, this is probably James Parsons in E-5807.

It also mentions Sgt Frank Porter on page 309, "In addition to those killed upon the battle-field of the 22d, very many died of their wounds. Among those not mentioned in the records who were killed on that day, are Francis Porter, Orderly Sergeant of Company G, and private E. Gallagher, of Company K, both men of marked bravery and popular favor, loved and esteemed by all; they have gone to their reward, engaged in defense of humanity and the great principles of national honor and liberty." (Also, there is a Sgt Frank Porter listed in Ohio Roster Roll of Honor as KIA in battle of Atlanta, Ga., July 22, 1864, no grave number given, so there is a possibility that it could be his grave also.)
