Son of Nicholas Sr & Margaret McCoy Pickrell. Married Sarah Bell. Children: Sarah, Lizzie B. Concannon, Carre E., Mary, Phebe and John Pickrell. On a large marble tombstone erected in 1904 by his children reads:
Nicholas Pickrell, born 03 March 1825, died 29Dec 1901. He was in Company G, 33rd Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry.
From an article in "Counties of Porter & Lake, Historical and Biographical" reads: Nicholas served from Nov 1864 to the end of the Civil War. He was in the battle of Nashville and was with Gen. Sherman at the surrender of Gen Johnston.

Chesterton Chips.
Nicholas Pickerel, ex-County Commissioner of Porter county, died last Friday, aged seventy-three years. He had lived in Valparaiso forty years.
