PHIL PICKARD, SOO LINE VET, PASSES AWAY
Philip L. Pickard, Soo Line railroad engineer at the local yards, died at his
home, 613 North Ninth street at 7:30 o’clock this morning, after a brief
illness, death being caused by spinal meningitis. Mr. Pickard was taken ill on
Wednesday last, being removed to his home and his condition was such on Saturday
that his two daughters, the Misses Adeline, a librarian at Sheboygan and Almina,
who is teaching school at Akron, Ohio, were sent for. Miss Adeline Pickard
arrived Saturday evening and Miss Almina Pickard arrived from Akron on the
morning train, reaching her home just five minutes before her father died.
Born in Stevens Point, March 19, 1863, Mr. Pickard was for years an engineer on
the Stevens Point division. In 1886 he was married and the family moved here in
1901 where they have made their home since.
Funeral services will be held from the St. James Episcopal church at 9:30 o’coock
Thursday morning, and burial will take place at Evergreen cemetery, the Rev.
Father Keicher officiating at the services both at the church and at the cemetery.
Members of the Maccabees and the Locomotive Engineers of which Mr. Pickard was a
member, will attend the funeral services.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Martina Pickard, and three daughters, Misses Almina of
Akron, Adeline of Sheboygan and Mrs. Frank Fetzer of this city, Mr. Pickard is
survived by three brothers, Charles of Almond, John at Shawano and Fred who
resides at Rhinelander. Mrs. Louise Whittaker, a sister who is making her home
here, also survives.
