COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Hiram Phillips of Col orado Springs died Friday, July 20, 2001, at the age of 84. He was born in St. Paul, Neb., Sept. 12, 1916, to John and Jenny (Norman) Phillips. He was a graduate of Seaman High School, Topeka, Kan., in 1935. He graduated in Decem ber 1940 from Moody Bible Institute, with studies in gen eral Bible. He was married June 27, 1942, to Helen Kaaz in La Crosse. After attending Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, he received a bach elor of theology degree and was ordained a Baptist minis ter in January 1948 in Westchester, Iowa, where he served two years. He contin ued to serve in various ways in the churches he later attended. His interest in mis sions also lead to involvement with World Vision and support of Wycliffe Bible Translators.
After retiring from Trane Co. in La Crosse, he moved to Hillsboro, Kan., to help in Bible Light International, a ministry to Israel, for eight years. His hobbies included reading, travel, gardening and golf.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; four daughters, one of Lakewood, Colo., one of Manning, S.C., one of Peabody, Kan., and one of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two nephews, one of Blue Springs, Mo., and one of Topeka; six grand children; four great-grand children; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother and wife, Elmer and Nanetta Phillips of Topeka, and an infant grand son, Philip Ludwigson.
Services were at Mountain View Chapel in Colorado Springs. Burial was at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park in La Crosse.
