Fenella "Nellie" Mills, 99, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 in Mesa.

Nellie was born in Pinetop to pioneer stock, Liona and Marcena Hansen Penrod. Her family moved to Show Low when Nellie was eleven years old. She finished the eighth grade. Nellie helped her grandmother in the Penrod Hotel and Grocery Store, which stood on the North East corner of White Mountain Road (Hwy 260) and Huning. She married Eph Mills on Sept. 27, 1922 in Show Low.

Nellie has been a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she and Eph were sealed in the Mesa Temple the day after it was dedicated. They made their home in Show Low and raised their children here. Nellie and Eph loved to Square Dance and they served as the dance directors for many years. She also served in the Relief Society for many years. Nellie was a homemaker and always kept a beautiful home and yard.

Nellie is survived by her sons, Otto L. (Betty) Mills of Snowflake, Kent P. Mills of Chandler, Vaughn R. (Evelyn) Mills of Salinas, CA, Doyle and Cheryl Mills of Show Low, Drexel D. (Loree) Mills of Missoula, Montana; daughters, Velva (Lynn) Kartchner of Snowflake, Kathryn (Jack) Tippetts of Show Low; one sister, Ella Tanner of Show Low.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eph, Feb. 25, 1996 and their son Eph, Jr. who passed away in infancy.

Funeral Services for Nellie will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at the Show Low Downtown Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a visitation Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in the Show Low Cemetery.
