Son of Vernon Jones Patterson & Lois Locklin Patterson who resided in Lima, New York.

Duncan served as a Technical Sergeant & Engineer/Gunner on B-24 (#42-51187), 850th Bomber Squadron, 801st Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 30, 1942 in Rochester, New York. He was noted as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents.

Flying a B-24 taking off from Harrington 2302hrs on Operation DICK 28A for the Maquis Camille at Peinture Drop Zone. Involved in a mid-air collision with an RAF Halifax at Mazignien, France. The two aircraft involved flew over the area without replying to the signals, heading towards the Eureka situated about two miles from the drop zone. After turning over a nearby village, probably in order to drop on DICK 28A. The other aircraft turned towards the Eureka, crossing over the route of "DICK 89", and the mid-air collision occurred at 0100hrs near Marigny-l'Eglise, Nievre, France about nine miles south of Avalon in Eastern France. Crashed 0100hrs near camp used by SAS troops operating behind enemy lines. 8 KIA.

Duncan was "Killed In Action" during the above operation over France during the war.

He was awarded an Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
