Pvt. James R. Patillo, 18th Co., 20th Engineers, died in the torpedoing & sinking of the troopship "Tuscania" on 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland by German submarine UB-77.

His body was not recovered.

James sailed on "Tuscania" under the name "James R. Potillo." His next-of-kin was his brother, C.G. Potillo, of Huntington, Arkansas.

He is also remembered in Pinecrest Memorial Park, Mena, Polk County, Arkansas. (Find A Grave #41695916)

In the 1910 census, James. R. Pattillo (age 14, born TX) is living with his mother, Cora L. Pattillo (44, TX), his brother Charles G. (22, TX), sister Jewel (10, Louisiana) and brother Armont (5, Arkansas). They are residents of Hickman, Scott County, Arkansas. Armont is buried in the same cemetery where James's memorial is in Arkansas.

In the 1930 census, Armont is living in Center, Polk County, Arkansas. His mother, Cora L. Green, lives with him. "Corra Patilla" had married M.B. Green on 13 May 1913 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.
