His education was at Westminster School. A lieutenant in the Blues, 1834, retired from the 7th Hussars in 1881. His wife Cecilia died in 1914. They had 6 sons and 6 daughters. He was M.P. for Lichfield 1837 - 1865, was chief equery to Queen Victoria. He died aboard his yacht, off the coast of Scotland.
