OODESSA William Newell Oxford, 89, of Breckenridge, Texas, passed away Friday, May 26, 2000. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., today at Stewart Funeral Chapel of Hollis, Okla. Burial will follow atIndependence Cemetery.
William Newell Oxford was born March 17, 1911, in Nocona, Texas, to Robert William and Bessie McHam Oxford. He married Suda Ella Hughes on Nov. 13, 1933, in Hollis, Okla. Mr. Oxford worked for the Davis Gin Co. of Altus, Okla. for 28 years. Newell raised his family and farmed in the Madge and Vinson, Okla. area. He retired from the Antioch,California School District in 1976 and moved back to Wellington, Texas. In 1988, he moved to Odessa and finally to Breckenridge to be near his children.
Mr. Oxford is survived by five sons, Claud of Wasilla, Alaska, Homer of Portland, Ore., Marian and Jack of Breckenridge, Texas, and Shannon of Lodi, Calif.; two daughters, Bernadette Littlefield of Breckenridge, Texas, and Linda Noble of McKinney, Texas; one brother,Robert McHam Oxford of Walters, Okla.; one sister, Boothe Lee of
Bakersfield, Calif.; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
