Mrs. Jerusha Ostrander, whose maiden name was Travis, was born at Easton, Washington County, N.Y., Nov 4, 1820. She was united in marriage to Mr. Jacob Ostrander at Milton, N.Y., March 18, 1844 and in September of the same year they newly married couple came to Wisconsin and settled on a farm in the town of Bristol.

In August 1865, Mrs. Ostrander received an injury which made her a cripple for life. On Jan. 21st, 1875, Mr. Ostrander died and the family remained on the farm until 1887 when Mrs. Ostrander accompanied by two of the children, Oscar and Eulalia, came to Sun Prairie where she has since resided.

Mrs. Ostrander died on the 6th of Nov., 1905, in the 85th year of her age. Mrs. Ostrander retained consciousness to the last and a few seconds before the angels carried her home she repeated the following words very clealy and distinctly:

"My Lord if indeed I am thine
If thou art my joy and my song,
Say why do I languish and pine.
And why are my winters so long?
Oh! drive those dark clouds from my sky,
Thy soul cheering presence restore
And take me to thee upon high.
Where winters and clouds are no more."

The funeral services were held at the home, Thursday afternoon, and the remains interred in the Bristol cemetery. Mrs. Ostrander was the mother of eight children, five of whom are living: Mrs. C.H. Lovering, Washington; Mrs. W. H. Hakes, Miss Eulalia Ostrander, both of Sun Prairie; George Ostrander, Columbus, Wis.; and James Ostrander, of Sparta, Wis.
