The B-17 Francis was in was shot down by enemy fire and went down in the North Sea. I've uploaded the only photo i could find with him and my colorized version of the photo. The caption on multiple WW2 websites indicates he was 23 years old when this photo was taken in January of 1943, which puts his birth in and around 1919-1920 or so.
