Mr. Earl Nuckolls, 88 of Dalton died Monday Feb 3rd 2003 at Hamilton Medical Center.

A graduate of Berry College, he pastored the following churches in the North Georgia Baptist Association; New Hope Baptist Church, Tunnell Hill Baptist Church and the Hill City Baptist Church in the Gordon County Baptist Association. He was moderator of the Gordon County Baptist Association in the 1960's.

He is a retired teacher with 31 years experience in Whitfield and Gordon County school. He taught in the following schools: Westside, Valley Point and Resaca.

He is a member of First Baptist Church, Dalton, the Scrap Iron Sunday School class, Georgia retired Teacher's Association and the Dalton-Whitfield Retired Teachers. He was ordained as a deacon and also into the gospel ministry at Mill Creek Baptist Church, Rocky Face. In May 2002 he was entered into the Valley Point Alumni Association Hall of Fame, having graduated Valley point in 1935 and taught there for 21 years.

Earl Nuckolls was born Nov 4, 1914 in Whitfield County. He grew up in the Mill Creek community, the son of the late James A. "Jim" and Margaret "Maggie" Babb Nuckolls.

He was preceded in death by brothers, William Truman and James Luther Nuckolls; sisters Viola Cantrell and Sue Wells.

Survivors include his wife Grace Kirby Nuckolls; sons and wives, Dr. Frank and Joy Nuckolls of Tyrone, Alan and Cheryl Nuckolls of Rocky Face; grandsons Andrew Nuckolls, Rocky Face and David Nuckolls of Tyrone; special nieces, Brenda Wells Shull of Columbia SC, Margaret Newton of Lafayette, Melba Yoder of Lafayette and other nieces and nephews; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. Ted (Sue) Page of Statesboro.

Services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Rev George Ross, Dr Frank Nuckolls and Dr Charlie Bridges officiating.

The family will receive friends today at Love Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the North Georgia Baptist Association Building Fund, PO Box 4389, Dalton, GA 30721 or to the Gordon County Baptist Association 373 Morrow Blvd, SE Calhoun, GA 30701.
