Denver L. Nuckolls, the son of Leland and Elizabeth Noble Nuckolls, was born Sept. 26,1914, in Atchison County, MO. He died Jan. 26 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.
Denver graduated from Blanchard High School in Blanchard, IA, and later attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines in 1934. Following his schooling he worked at the Lytton Bank, and in 1938 he moved to Marshalltown where he worked at Commercial Savings Bank. In 1940 Denver moved to Paton where he was employed at the bank.
On Nov 10, 1940, Denver L. Nuckolls was united in marriage to Dorothy Isabelle Moats at her parents' home in Grundy Center. To this union were born three daughters Janine (Mrs. Ralph) Riedesel of Paton, Janet (Mrs. Richard) Happe of Churdan and Jennifer (Mrs. Chuck) Hoyt of Carlisle.
Following their marriage the couple made their home in Paton. In November of 1942 Denver entered the Army Air Force and served with the 123rd AAF in the African and Mediterranean Theaters. Upon his discharge he returned to Paton and worked in the bank until the fall of 1951, when the family moved to Stratford. Denver was employed by Farmers Savings Bank. In June of 1963 the family moved to Paton where Denver served as president of Community State Bank until his death.
Denver was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Paton and was also a member of Gem Mason Lodge in Paton, Acorn Masonic Lodge in Stratford, Za Ga Zig Shrine in Des Moines, Paton Lions Club, Paton American Legion and the Paton V.F W. Denver was active in his church and community and served as president of the Lions Club, commander of the American Legion, taught Sunday school all of his adult life, served on the church board, board of laity (Fort Dodge district), board of director of Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, board of directors of Scandinavian Mutual Insurance Company, and was a member of the Iowa Bankers Assn. for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, three children, his mother, Elizabeth Rice of Paton, five grandchildren, one brother, Dr. M. N. Nuckolls of Oskaloosa, and one sister, Betty (Mrs C.L.) Phillips of Dubuque.
Preceding him in death was his father.
