Ronald 'Ron' W. Nowlin died Oct. 29, 2009, in Phoenix. He was born July 14, 1930, in Norfolk, Neb.

Ron retired as a technical sergeant in 1968 from the United States Air Force. He served in Korea and Vietnam. He received a Korean Service Medal with two Battle Stars, National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Clasp with three loops for exemplary behavior, efficiently and fidelity during period Aug. 17, 1954, to Aug. 16, 1957, United Nations Metal, and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
After retiring from the United States Air Force, Ron continued to serve in many ways, as a police officer with the Coolidge Police Department, a deputy sheriff with Pinal County, and officer at the Department of Corrections at Florence Prison. He was a graduate of Central Arizona Regional Law Officers Training Academy, 1975 and Arizona Department of Corrections, Correctional Service Officer's Training, 1984. Ron was an active member at the Show Low Veteran's Post 9907.
He is survived by wife of 41 years, Edna; six stepdaughters, Cynthia, Janet, Charlene, Joyce, Suzette, Frankie; two sons, Michael and Richard, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. From his first marriage, he is survived by his daughter and son, Patricia and Michael, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ilah Nowlin and his first wife Geraldine and their son, Lewis.
Funeral services with Air Force military honors to celebrate Ron's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road in Phoenix.
The family suggest memorial contributions to Hospice of the Valley or Alzheimer Disease research.
