Pioneer Arizonan Passed Away July 4 At Age 82
Final rites were held at the Wickenburg Chapel Wednesday morning of this week for Mrs. Mary Newcomb, 82-year-old mother of Mrs. Pearl Savage and Mrs. Ethel Robinson of Wickenburg who passed away at Community Hospital here at 11:35 p.m. July 4. Mrs. Newcomb's death followed less than five months after that of her husband, William A. Newcomb in the Veterans Hospital in Prescott, or February 23.
Rev. Ray A. Ford of the Assembly of God Church officiated at the funeral services and burial took place beside her husband in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Livengood. George Pemberton, Karl Miller, William D. Sego, Bert Headley and Clyde Hall.
Born In Tennessee
Born in Tennessee on January 19, 1871, Mrs. Newcomb came west to Arizona in 1930, lived in Phoenix and later in Wickenburg. With her husband she moved to Ehrenburg where they both lived until returning to Wickenburg two years ago; Mrs. Newcomb had suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered. She had since made her made her home with daughter Mrs. Savage.
The Survivors
Mrs. Newcomb was, held in high esteem in this, community and her passing brought many expressions 'of sympathy to the family. In addition to Mrs. Savage and. Mrs. Robinson, a third daughter, Mrs. Addie Johnson of Indianapolis survives. The latter flew here for the funeral services. Two sons who survive are John Daniels of Prescott and Wendell Newcomb of Compton, Calif. Of the 17 surviving grandchildren, Richard Savage Chief of Police here. Mrs. Newcomb also survived by 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
