Husband of Susan Neuhoff.

Karl Neuhoff fought for Germany in World war II as a paratrooper. He was in many of the great battles of WWII involving German paratroop units. He jumped into Poland, twice into Russia, Crete and Sicily.

Neuhoff joned the German Army on Novemebr 3, 1937 and was assigned to the 3rd Light Infantry Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment. After having served only six months, his request for training as a Fallschirmjager (paratrooper) was granted. He graduated from the parachutist/rifleman course held at Stendel on 7/15/1939. On Septemeber 1st, he became a squad leader in the 10th Company, 17th Infantry regiment and saw service in Poland. On 6/4/1940 he was sent to 7th Fliegerdivision's Parachute Replacement Battalion and on 12/1/1940 he was promoted to Feldwebel (Sergeant).

Karl Neuhoff fought for Germany in World war II and was in many of the great battles of involving German paratroop units. While serving as an Oberfeldwebel (Senior Sergeant or Sergeant Major) with the 6th Company, 3rd Fallschirmjager Regiment during the famous Battle of Monte Casino, Neuhoff's performance in battle was highly lauded. The Allied 26th New Zealand Battalion drove into the town of Cassino from the north on March 15, 1944 and were stopped by Neuhoff and his men, who were fighting out of the Hotel Continental. At some point the 26th was augmented by the 24th New Zealand Battalion to try and force the German paratroopers from their defensive positions but still, both the 26th and the 24th were held at bay by Neuhoff and his greatly outnumbered Fallschirmjager unit. His outstanding leadership, command abilities and bravery earned him the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross - roughly the equivalent of the US Medal of Honor, awarded on June 9, 1944. This four month battle resulted in nearly 250,000 killed or wounded. While the Allies ultimately won the battle, the German soldiers, especially the brave men of the Fallschirmjager Regiment, made them earn it.

Neuhof was promoted to officer status on 12/29/1944 with the rank of Oberleutnant (Senior Lieutenant) and given command of 1st Battalion, 3rd Parachute Regiment until the end of the war.

In addition to the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, Neuhoff earned the following decorations:
The German Cross in Gold (earned during the Battle of Sicily - awarded 10/27/1943)
Iron Cross 1st Class (earned during the Battle of Crete)
Iron cross 2nd Class (earned during the Battle of Crete)
Wound badge in Black (twice wounded in Russia)
Eastern Front Badge
Fallschirmjager Badge

He migrated to the United States after the war.
