HERO MEDAL GIVEN EX-HOOSIER VETERAN KILLED IN FRANCE

Washington, April 17 - The War Department announced today the posthumous award of the Silver Star to Lotus N. Mobley for gallantry in action during the Meuse-Argonne offensive of the World War in France October 24, 1918.

Mobley, then a sergeant in Company L, 102 Infantry, 26 Division, was cited for his gallantry in advancing with his platoon to the attack despite wounds, until he was killed.
He was born in Hartwell, Ind, and lived in Cedar Rapids, Ia. at the time of his enlistment. The decoration will be sent to his nearest relative, Jesse I. Mobley, Indianapolis.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Lotus N. Mobley (ASN: 240329), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 102d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, A.E.F., near Trugny, France, 23 July 1918. Sergeant Mobley displayed exceptional courage in dashing into field under heavy shell and machine-gun fire, and carrying to safety a wounded man.
