Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company D, 124th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on August 9, 1862. At the September 17, 1862 Battle of Antietam he was shot through the gut, and miraculously survived the wound that would prove fatal most others times during the war. He was eventually mustered out with his company on May 15, 1863.

On April 3, 1864 he filed for a US Army Invalid Veteran Pension (Application #44964, Certificate #32551).
