"Roy" as he was known throughout his life, was a fascinating man. He was a custodian at the Nebraska State Capitol Building for over forty years and for the first twenty did not have one day of vacation. He was the third child of twelve born to William John Merrill and Elizabeth T. (Lilly) Walker. Roy was the father of three children, one of whom was my grandmother, Hazel Alice Merrill Mann Riley. Roy retired and went to live with his daughter and her husband in Burbank California, which is where he died on 09 October 1972. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Merrill and Jane Elizabeth Christner.
